Pitru Paksha 20 September 25

Pitru Paksha, the fortnight during which homage is paid to the ancestors, starts from Monday,
September 8 and ends on Mahalaya Amavasya, also called Sarva Pitru Amavasya  Saturday, September
20 (as per Panchang for Ottawa.).  Mahalaya Amavasya is considered the most significant day of Pitru
Paksha. For any reason if you have to do Tarpana on Sunday, please contact the priests or manager and
book the timing and confirm since the scheduled programs take place on Sundays.
We expect the temple to be busy during these two weeks. If you would like to offer Shradha / Pitru
Tarpan to your ancestors, you can perform the ritual with the guidance of the priests at the Temple. We
suggest that you please call ahead at 613-822-1531 and make a booking.
At the temple, Mahalaya -Sarva Pitru Amavasya will be conducted on Saturday, September 20, and the
Temple will be open all day from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm.

The auspicious Durga Navaratri Festival starts on MondaySeptember 22 and ends with Dussehra on Thursday, October 2. During this ten-day celebration, the following events will take place at the Temple.

Sri Durga SaptaShati (Devi Mahatmyam) Parayan and Sri Navachandi Yaag

Devi Mahatmyam/Durga Saptashati will be recited from Wednesday, September 24 to Friday, September 26 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please join in chanting Durga Saptashati with the priests in the Temple. 

Navachandi Yaag will be conducted on Saturday, September27, starting at 9:00 am.

Akhand Ramayan Paath (from 8:00 am Saturday, September  27  to 8:00 am Sunday, September 28)

This auspicious event will be conducted virtually as well as in the Temple as per the following schedule.

           8:00 am to 8:30 pm:             In the Temple and Online

           8:30 pm to 7:00 am:             Online Only

           7:00 am to 8:00 am:             In the Temple and Online (Priest will open the Door)

For those participating virtually, a link will be sent to you on receipt of your confirmation. Please download the Webex app in preparation. Let us enjoy the recitation of the melodious Ram Naam during Navaratri. !!

Global Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Parayanam   (Starts at 9:30 am Ottawa time; Saturday, September27)

Hindu Temple will be participating in the 18th Akhanda Vishnu Sahasra Nama Parayana (Global AVSN), on Saturday, September 27 starting at 9:20 am. This event is conducted in the Lecture Hall downstairs. The Program includes Samkalpam at 9:20 am, followed by VSN chanting beginning precisely at 9:30 am to coincide with the Global Chanting times in different countries.  The VSN Stotram will be chanted five times followed by recitation of selected Suktams (Purusha Suktam, Sri Suktam, Durga Suktam (Vishnu Suktam if time permits) and Sri Lakshmi Astotharashatnamavali. The event will conclude with Archana, puja and Aarti by 12:30 pm. You can bring small quantities of flowers, fruits and prasadam. Please register by sending an email to temple below.

Every evening during this week, Devi Stuti, Puja and Aarti will be conducted. These auspicious ceremonies are performed to seek Durga Mata’s blessings for good health, prosperity and happiness for the family and for World Peace.

parIcipate in this auspicious event by reading a chapter or part of a chapter of Shrimad Bhagvadgeeta or Upanishads, please

chapters have already been assigned it is imperaIve that you respond early as we will assign on a “first come first serve” basis.

Since we have been running this program virtually for the past few years, we have had several parIcipants from India. As such,

Health seminars were held at the temple once a month for eight years (2012–2020). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these seminars have been on hold since March 2020. They were very popular and well attended—often drawing up to 150 participants.

We are pleased to announce that, in response to numerous requests, these seminars will resume starting Sunday, September 14, 2025, and will continue on the second Sunday of each month

RELIGIOUS SERVICES ORGANIZED / CONDUCTED ON BEHALF OF THE TEMPLE

Kitchen Use:

The kitchen may be used solely for preparing prasad, limited to halva and rice only.

Prohibited Items:

Alcoholic beverages, meat, poultry, and fish products are strictly prohibited on the Temple premises, both indoors and outdoors. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks are also not to be served. Only water may be offered.

Onion and Garlic:

Out of respect for the sentiments of certain Hindu devotees, the use or serving of onion and garlic in any form is not permitted within the Temple.

Nut Allergies:

Due to the potential for allergic reactions, nuts in any form must not be served.

Disposable Supplies:

The Temple provides paper plates, napkins, plastic spoons, and Styrofoam cups for water for use during Sunday Bhog and other Temple events.

Leftover Prasad:

The coordinator or Seva Mandal must ensure that all leftover prasad is distributed to devotees to take home. Cooked prasad must not be stored in the refrigerator.

PRIVATE POOJAS AND RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES

The kitchen, at present, is not intended for general cooking of meals but as a service facility only.

No Cooking in the Kitchen:

The Temple kitchen is not to be used for any cooking under any circumstances.

Food Source:

Food may be catered or brought pre-cooked from outside.

Washing Restrictions:

Washing of pots or large utensils in the Temple kitchen is not permitted.

Prohibited Items:

Alcoholic beverages, meat, poultry, and fish products are strictly prohibited on Temple premises (both inside and outside). Tea, coffee, and soft drinks are not to be served. Only water may be offered.

Onion and Garlic:

In consideration of the religious sensitivities of certain devotees, onion and garlic in any form are not allowed in the Temple.

Nut Allergies:

Due to the potential for allergic reactions, nuts in any form must not be served.

Serving Supplies:

Devotees are expected to bring their own paper plates, napkins, plastic spoons, and Styrofoam cups for water. In case of emergency, the Temple may provide these supplies at a nominal cost of $50 per set of 100.

Clean-Up Responsibility:

Hosts must arrange for sufficient help to ensure the premises are left thoroughly clean after the event.

Event Timing:

All activities must be completed within Temple hours, and no later than 7:30 PM.

Garbage Disposal:

All garbage must be collected and disposed of in the designated bin located outside the building near the garage.
