DESCRIPTION:The word Karva Chauth is made up of two words\, ‘Karva\,’ which means an earthen pot with a spout and ‘Chauth’ which means fourth. The earthen pot is of great significance as it is used by the women to offer water to the moon as part of the festival rituals. It is said that this festival began when women started praying for the safe return of their husbands who went to fight wars in far off lands. It is also held that it is celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season. Whatever be the origins\, the festival offers an occasion to strengthen familial ties. \nPlease note that: Temple timings are 8.30 to 10.30 am and then opens again at 5 pm to 8.30 pm on this day. \nDevotees are requested to bring in the following items from home for the puja: \n(1) Kum-kum Powder ; (2) Red Thread (Moli); (3) Chawal (Rice) ; (4) Phool (Flowers); (5) Phal (Fruits); (6) Pan -Five Betel Leaves; (7) Supari (Two big betelnuts) (8) Deepam (Lamp) (9) Thali-One (10) Kalash (Pot) One\, and (11) One Spoon. \nKarwa Chauth will be celebrated on Tuesday\, October 31. We suggest that you please call ahead at 613-822-1531 and make a booking. \nPlease note that on Mahalaya -Sarva Pitru Amavasya Friday\, October 13\, the Temple will be open all day from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm. Preferable Pitru tarpan time is up to 5:00 pm. \nYou may also note that on Saturday\, October 14 there is Surya Grahan in Ottawa and Pitru Tarpan should not be performed.

DESCRIPTION:Sri Saraswati Puja will be conducted on Monday\, September  4 (Labor Day) from 9:30 to 11:30 am for students returning to or starting a new class year. With the guidance of the priests\, puja will be performed by students  (with their parents) and prayers will be devoted to Goddess Saraswati for good health\, better education\, happy living and prosperous future. DESCRIPTION:Spiritual significance of Onam\nAccording to mythology\, King Mahabali was the greatest king of Kerala and it was during his reign that the local people saw the best of times; prosperity and grandeur ruled everywhere. To end Mahabali’s rule on earth\, Lord Vishnu emerged as a Vaman (short Brahmin) and tricked the King to give him whatever land he had. Thereby\, King Mahabali was sent to a lower world; but Vishnu also granted him a boon that he could visit his land once every year. Onam celebrates this home-coming of the King.
